The answer to that is WRONG! I cannot emphasize that enough, WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! God gave you a brain, so use it. He wants you to think for yourself and make your own decisions and choices. He does not want you to rely upon someone else to make the decisions for you. God does not want you to have blind-faith. He wants you to know what you believe, and why you believe it.
If our church leaders or Pastor tells you something or teaches something, or preaches it from the pulpit, if you have questions, ask them. Ask them the sources for what they are saying, and check them out. Check them out. Be sure what is being said is accurate and in the proper context. Too many times a false teacher will take just one verse from the Bible and twist it to what he wants, and simple ignoring the Scriptures before and after it, so it fits what he wants and now what the Word of God really says. A good example of this was used by many reincarnation groups back in the early 1970's. They claimed that the Bible taught reincarnation:
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
(John 3:3)
Yet it you read the passages around it, it has absolutely nothing at all to do with reincarnation. It is referring to being born-again in the new birth in Christ.
One church actually teaches its members, "When our leaders speak, the thinking has been done. When they propose a plan-it is God's plan. When they point the way, there is no other which is safe. When they give direction, it should mark the end of controversy. God works in no other way. To think otherwise, without immediate repentance, may cost one his faith, may destroy his testimony, and leave him a stranger to the kingdom of God."
This is the same type of erroneous teaching that has led to many catastrophes and death. Here are just two of the more infamous examples of people adhering to this teaching and doing what their leaders say without question:
Back in 1978, 909 members of The People's Temple committed suicide by drinking cyanide laced with Kool-Aid and used syringes to force it down the throats of infants and babies, all on the orders of their leader Jum Jones.
In 1997 Marshall Applewhite, founder of Heaven's Gate, had posted on their website, "Hale-Bopp brings closure to Heaven's Gate ...our 22 years of classroom here on planet Earth is finally coming to conclusion - 'graduation' from the Human Evolutionary Level. We are happily prepared to leave 'this world' and go with Ti's crew.' Then he and 39 of his followers committed suicide in the belief that hidden within the tail of the Hale-Bopp comet was a spaceship that would collect their souls and take them so they "could reach the Next Level before the closure of "Heaven's Gate"."
When you let someone do the thinking for you, sooner or later, disaster will occur. Think for yourself. The Bible warns us:
...My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge
(Hosea 4:6)
The people mentioned above that were involved with the two cults would probably be alive today if they had thought for themselves, questioned what they were being told, and used their wisdom. They would have maybe never joined these groups, or if they did, they would have left long before tragedy struck.
If you church leaders tell you something and then turn around and tell you that you must accept it and follow it without question, maybe it is time to get out. Do your own thinking.
We must follow and only follow the teachings of God as found in Hs Word, the Holy Bible:
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness
(2 Timothy 3:16)
The Bible warns us that:
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
(1 Timothy 4:1)
The Bible further warns us about the thinking and teachings of man:
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
(Proverbs 14:12)
