In this series we will be looking at many of the outright lies and false teachings of three major cults that have swept across America since the 1800’s that are still here today. These three being The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons – LDS), The Jehovah’s Witnesses (JW), and the Seventh-day Adventists (SDA).
In this first part, we will examine some of the more general false teachings that all three of these groups have in common with one another. In the parts to follow we will be looking at some of the teachings that are more unique to their specific group and teachings.
This belief contradicts Biblical teaching. From the Bible, in Jesus' own words, we are told:
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
(Matthew 16:18)
Just from their own teachings, Christ lied (which we know He cannot) and the "gates of hell" did prevail against the true church and destroyed it. That it was their founder(s) divine calling to restore it.
The Bible and its teachings must always prevail over any man made teachings or churches. The Bible is never wrong, but quite obviously man's teachings are.
The Bible tells us that:
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
(Ephesians 2:8-9)
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
(Galatians 2:16)
As REAL Christians we are to rely upon "Sola Scripture" Scripture Alone. The Seventh-day Adventists in some of their publications claim to follow "Sola Scriptura", but this is another deception on their part. For they hold the writings of Ellen G. White to be just as inspired as the Bible, so in their thinking using her writings fall under the category of "Sola Scriptura."
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness
(2 Timothy 3:16)
The Bible and the Bible alone, contains all that we need for salvation and holy and divine teaching. Again, "Sola Scriptura." We need nothing else.
The Bible warns us:
For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
(Revelation 22:18-19)
I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. (Galatians 1:6-9) Now the Mormons (LDS) tried to find a way around this. Years ago, they added to the cover of their Book of Mormon, "Another Testament of Jesus Christ." Well guess what? In this case the word "testament" is used exactly the same was as "gospel" is. By trying to deceive everyone and be clever they are actually exposing themselves and their false writings and teachings.
The Bible tells us something completely different about baptisms and what is to be said:
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost
(Matthew 28:19)
There is nothing said about it being part of a requirement to join a church or organization or acknowledge a person(s) or their writings.
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
(Acts 4:12)
And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
(Acts 16:31)
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
(Mark 16:16)
